Northfield, located approximately 10km north east of the Adelaide CBD has its earliest known naming origins from the 1890’s in conjunction with the North Field Athletics Club. The area also famous as the landing ground of Sir Ross and Keith Smith’s “Vickers Vimy” airplane, where the road ‘Vickers Vimy Parade’ gets its name. Amongst the planes’ most notable achievements was being the first to make a non-stop crossing of the Atlantic Ocean in June 1919.
Part of the original Northfield allotment now forms the modern sub-division known as Northgate, and whilst Northgate comprises homes built entirely in the last 10-15 years, Northfield is an area going through renewal like so many of the suburbs surrounding it, made popular with developers and builders due to the flat land, large blocks and often wide frontages making sub-division and building a less painful process than it otherwise would be.
Local parks and amenities are plentiful and many investors and first home buyers are finding Northfield a great value alternative to Northgate, Lightsview and Greenacres.
